(Via The Financial Times) It was reported today that Bristol City Council has partnered with Bristol University to make the city a test-bed for ‘smart city’ technologies. By utilising Bristol’s old Rediffusion infrastructure, 40 miles of city streets will be hooked up to a superfast fibre-optic network. This network will be available to telecoms equipment companies and app developers to test new products and services on the network over a city-scale area under live conditions. For a fee.  It is thought that this project is the largest of its kind in Europe.
