Tokyo’s strength in computer graphics and interactive techniques has been recognised, with the Japanese capital winning the 11th edition of SIGGRAPH Asia in 2018.
The Association of Computer Machinery’s Special Interest Group on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques (ACM SIGGGRAPH)’s Asia region event attracts thousands of computer graphics professionals, computing educators, and researchers, from all over the world.
Tokyo has been lobbying to bring the conference to the city for many years, with the bid committee and Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau (TCVB) emphasising the city’s leading role as the largest hub of the computer graphics and interactive techniques in Japan. Financial and in-kind support for the bid also came from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in light of the industry’s importance to the city.
Tokyo has many companies, associations and academic institutions that will be involved in the successful hosting of the conference, including Square Enix, Polygon Pictures, OLM, IBM, Digital Hollywood Univ., CESA, VFX-JAPAN and Design & Technology Association.
Tokyo International Forum (TIF) will be the venue for SIGGRAPH Asia 2018, following a successful site visit from Professor Yong Tsui Lee, SIGGRAPH Asia Conference Advisory Group chair.
