(Via Brookhaven National Laboratory) In order to secure the future of electric vehicles as a viable alternative to their traditionally fuelled counterparts, battery technology must advance, current high capacity battery systems (e.g. Lithium-Ion or Li-on) are rife with problems linked to price, energy density, efficiency and durability which has limited their use in large scale applications like vehicular power for some time. By utilising newly developed imagery techniques and cutting edge equipment available at Brookhaven, the teams involved hope to examine and improve materials that have the potential to one day make transportation more sustainable.
